Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
The Hope Pregnancy Centers were first established way back in 1986 with Tulsa and north Oklahoma City locations. The south OKC location opened in 2006, and we just opened an Ardmore center in 2013 for everyone in the southern part of the state.
What is your primary product or service?
We provide a free pregnancy test, education on pregnancy options, classes on fatherhood and parenting, ultrasounds and services for abortion recovery. Everything we provide is free and totally confidential. We provide these services as a ministry of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children. We're supported by loving individuals who believe in the profound importance of providing accurate information on pregnancy options and access to quality health care and be treated with respect and compassion to those in unplanned pregnancies.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I began volunteering at the Hope Pregnancy Centers in 2005. I've been on staff since 2006 and have served as director of Hope Pregnancy Center OKC North since 2008 and as State Director for Hope Pregnancy Ministries since 2012. Having experienced an unplanned pregnancy as a teen, I have a heart to help others in similar circumstances.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are very welcoming and supportive of everyone who comes in looking for information and help with their situation. We even help with supplies for the baby if they are needed. We understand that everyone has a different point of view and we don't try to preach to anyone. We just want to help people make good decisions and get information on all of the options available to them. Finding out about an unplanned pregnancy can send you into freak out mode. We try to support everyone who comes in and let them know that there are many options open to them. It can make you feel a lot better just to speak with people who have gone through the same thing before. We all work here because we want to help.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have four locations. We just recently expanded in 2013 when we opened the Hope Pregnancy Center of Southern Oklahoma in Ardmore.
